Services / Lagoon Sludge Analysis

Lagoon Sludge Analysis & Characterization

Scientific assessment of sedimentation lagoon sediments, anaerobic pond sludge, and effluent treatment residues for desilting, disposal, co-processing, or agricultural remediation.

Environmental Sludge Profiling

In-Depth Characterization of Industrial & Biological Sludge

Over time, accumulation of settled solids in treatment ponds, maturation lagoons, and storage basins reduces effective hydraulic retention time and creates potential environmental risks. Determining the exact physical, chemical, and hazardous properties of the accumulated sludge is essential before undertaking dredging, dewatering, land application, or landfill disposal.

Sishodia Research Laboratories Private Limited (SRLPL) provides complete analytical characterization of lagoon sludge from industrial manufacturing units, distilleries, municipal facilities, and agro-processing plants.

Key Laboratory Tests & Analytical Suites

Our testing suite establishes the chemical composition, hazardous profile, and potential utility of sludge deposits.

01 / PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Solids & Moisture Profiling

Measurement of moisture content, total dry solids, specific gravity, bulk density, and ash content to calculate dewatering capacity, transport tonnage, and disposal logistics.

02 / COMBUSTION & ENERGY

Organic Content & Calorific Value

Determination of Volatile Solids (VS), Total Organic Carbon (TOC), and Gross Calorific Value (GCV in kcal/kg) to evaluate feasibility for boiler co-firing or cement kiln co-processing.

03 / HEAVY METALS & TOXICITY

Elemental & Toxic Screening

Quantification of trace elements and heavy metals including Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Nickel (Ni), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), and Arsenic (As) against hazardous waste thresholds.

04 / NUTRIENTS & SALINITY

Nutrient & Agricultural Assessment

Testing for Total Nitrogen, Available Phosphorus, Potassium (NPK value), pH, Electrical Conductivity, and Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) for controlled bio-composting or land spreading.

Practical Protocols

Sampling Methodology & Laboratory Deliverables

Due to settling gradients, lagoon sludge can be heterogeneous. Accurate assessment requires structured sampling procedures:

  • Composite Core Sampling: We recommend taking multiple core or grab samples across inlet zones, midpoint settling basins, and deep zones, homogenizing them into composite samples representing defined lagoon sections.
  • Sample Containers & Quantity: Provide 1.5 to 2.0 kg of wet sludge per composite sample packed in wide-mouth, chemical-resistant HDPE containers or heavy-duty sealed polythene bags.
  • Preservation & Dispatch: Store samples in cool containers (below 4°C) without chemical preservatives to keep volatile fractions and biological moisture intact during transit.
  • Deliverables & Turnaround: Formal test certificates are delivered within 5 to 7 working days, containing complete analytical parameters, method citations, detection limits, and statutory comparison benchmarks.
